The Pregnancy Handbook... OUT NOW!!!

Finally! After 2 years (yes, 2 whole years) my 1st ever book is finally published.

Why did it take so long? Well, first of all because the main objective of the book is to record my own journey of pregnancy month by month, so naturally it took 9+ months to begin with. After the birth of my precious daughter, Nuala Andhara, I had to put the book writing in the back burner. Its not easy doing anything else while caring for a newborn. So slowly but surely I got back on track, adding/removing information, cross-checking with my sources, etc., etc., until the material was complete!

Before I go on, let me give you a brief overview of the book. It is divided into 3 main topics : Food, Fashion, and Fitness, discussed per trimester. Why? Because each trimester has a different specification and requires different treatment. Such as in your 1st, you may be feeling nauseous, so I have designed menus with the right amount of calories and nutritions that may curb your morning sickness. Fitness moves are also trimester-specific, where the last trimester will focus on positioning your baby ready for delivery. Dressing up should be fun! So I have devised outfits for the office, parties, and casuals that will carry you through those fashion-challenged 9 months.

In addition, the book contains month by month development of baby, your own diary, and other topics related to pregnancy - such as fasting, choosing a name, work leave, preparing your hospital bag, green parenting, hypnobirthing, and many more.

But then I found out the most grueling part from writing. The editing, lay out, and spell check! Who would've known?? That plus my new activity as a 2nd time mother, beginning to work again as TV host and MC, and other issues with the editor and publisher... another year later, here it is!
Friday, 29 April (how sweet of William and Kate to chose the same date!) 2pm at FAB Cafe, Gramedia Grand Indonesia, I had my very first book launch!
Although I have been the MC for numerous launchings, it was very different when you are the client. I was nervous about the attendance. I have done launchings where hardly anyone showed up! Crossing my fingers that won't be the case for me.

I was so busy thinking about the guest list, food, table setting, goodie bags and doorprizes, run down and MC script, that I didn't even have a dress picked out!
So Friday morning, after taking Nuala to her playgroup, I rushed to JIL boutique in Kemang. They always manage to have a smart casual dress for me. Sure enough I found a grey Roland Mouret-ish fitted dress with cap sleeve. They'd go perfectly with my neon pump platforms! Dress done, now off to the salon, just for a very simple ponytail.
Then after making sure the girls are home and good to go, I went first to the venue carrying the 50 goodiebags, mannequin, and other bits and bobs.
I awaited anxiously for the media and guests to arrive. 2 pm already, the first to arrive were from I Toodle, then a couple more. Time crept to 2.30, I nervously glanced out the window from the 3rd floor, traffic was heavy. But we had to start the talkshow because the doctor had to leave by 3pm.
So, with the seats half filled we began the talkshow with the MC introducing me as the writer; Ahmad Syarief, my personal trainer from Fitness First; and Dr. Uf Bagazi SpOG from Brawijaya Women and Children Hospital.

It started of well. I was extremely delighted when Dr. Uf commented that my book is very comprehensive and one of its kind for encouraging pregnant women to exercise and eat healthy.
After Dr. Uf politely parted, we carried on with the talkshow with guests and media pouring in after 3pm. When we opened the Q&A session, I was overwhelmed with the interest and curiosity in the questions. That is the whole point of my book - to raise awareness that pregnancy is not the time to 'take it easy', but the perfect time to design and implement a healthy lifestyle : including regular exercise, healthy diet plan, and of course dressing to accentuate your bump. Like I said in my book "your bump is the most exclusive fashion accessory".

After photo session and book signing, I look back at the pictures and am very pleased that all went well. I can proudly add 'writer' to my status!
My book promotion is in full swing, will be doing radio talkshows and a few more events in the near future.
Now, I have another task ahead of me... my 2nd book! Hope it won't take another 2 years in the making!
